TAMIL KANJI A BIG HIT DURING IFTAR

Tamil Kanji a big hit during Iftar

A traditional iftar comprising kanchi from the south Indian state of Tamil Nadu along with vada, samosa, fruit and juice has been attracting more than 4000 people every day in Deira.

The iftar is being hosted by the Indian Muslim Association mostly consisting of Muslims from Tamilnadu.

Mohamed Hidayathullah, Office Manager of the Indian Muslim Association, said that the organisation has been hosting the iftar every year since 25 years.

It is not just Tamils who attend the iftar. People representing different nationalities like those from Pakistan, Iran, Yemen, Bangaladesh, Nepal and Sudan attend the iftar everyday, said Hidayathullah.

He said that Tamil Nadu kanchi has become a favourite dish for many people atttending the iftar regularly.

Though kanchi is a new dish to many, they have taken an instant liking to the cuisine made of rice, he added.

The organisation has set up a special tent at Sabkha for the purpose and is also serving the choicest dishes for the gathering at the venue to break their fast.

Hidayathullah said that ETA ASCON, a company belonging to a Tamil Nadu businessman, is playing a major role in conducting the iftar party in Sabkha, which is dominated by a large number of Muslims from Tamil Nadu region.

More than 20 volunteers actively take part in the iftar in the preparation and distribution of food to the devotees, who throng the venue daily.
